Marty retired as a Captain from the Philadelphia PA Fire Department after serving over 26 years. He served in the busiest engine companies in the city over 18 years both as a Firefighter and Company Officer. He was an adjunct instructor for several Recruit classes at the Philadelphia Fire Academy and served on may in-service training teams throughout his career. He has an Associate of Fire Science Degree from Philadelphia Community College, a Bachelor of Science from State University of New York; Empire State College. Marty is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, and a graduate of several National Fire Academy Courses, primarily in Command & Control, Management, and Arson Investigation.
Marty started at Miramar College as an adjunct in Spring 2002 and was hired full-time in the Fall 2004. His main goal and passion is to help the students get hired as a career firefighter and to reduce the number of line of duty death and injuries.
Darren has been activity in the fire service field for over twenty years. Currently, Darren works as a Fire Captain for the City of Coronado Fire Department. Like most eager firefighter candidates, Darren spent countless hours in various fire service agencies and educational institutions gaining the proper blend of experience, training, education, and community involvement required for the contemporary firefighter candidate. His experiences evolved from participating in a Fire Explorer program, working as a Reserve Firefighter, Seasonal Firefighter and Firefighter Cadet, before being selected as a firefighter for the City of Coronado.
Darren earned a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University, an Associate's degree in Fire Science from Miramar College and a Associate's Degree in Public Administration from Southwestern College. Darren is also a Master Instructor with the CA State Fire Marshal's Office. He has taught entry level firefighter candidates through ROP (Regional Occupation Program) and Southwestern College and is currently working as an Assistant Professor for Miramar College. Captain Hall was recently recognized as the California State Fire Training Officer of the Year Award in 2011 through CSFA.
Dennis Sheean became a full-time member of the Fire Technology faculty in the Fall of 2008 after serving as an adjunct instructor for eighteen years. Dennis has an associate degree in fire science from Palomar College, and an associate degree in fire management from Santa Ana College. Mr. Sheean earned a Community College Teaching Credential while studying adult teaching methodology at SDSU, and UCSD.
During his twenty-nine year fire service career Mr. Sheean served as a paramedic, hazardous materials team member, and rescue systems instructor. Dennis managed the construction and development of the urban rescue training facility at Camp Elliott, MCAS Miramar where over three thousand Miramar College students have learned techniques of urban disaster recovery.
Dennis is a California State Fire Marshal certified Chief Officer. Dennis was the co-recipient of the 2005 American Legion Meritorious Service Award, and was chosen as the California Fire Service Instructor Of The Year in 1992.
Mr. Sheean is currently teaching courses in fire management, strategy and tactics, fire behavior, and rescue systems.
